Description
This easy Slow Cooker Apple Cider is made completely from scratch using whole apples, warm spices, and orange slices. It’s a beginner-friendly, naturally sweetened fall drink that fills your kitchen with cozy aroma.
Ingredients
8–10 medium apples, quartered
8–10 cups water
2–3 cinnamon sticks
1 teaspoon whole cloves
1/2 teaspoon whole allspice (optional)
1 orange, sliced
1/4 to 1/2 cup brown sugar or honey, to taste
Instructions
1. Wash and quarter the apples, removing stems and seeds; add to a 6-quart or larger slow cooker.
2. Add cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice (if using), and orange slices.
3. Pour in enough water to fully cover the apples.
4. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours, until apples are very soft.
5. Mash the apples in the slow cooker with a potato masher.
6. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large bowl or pot, pressing gently; discard solids.
7. Stir in brown sugar or honey to taste.
8. Serve warm, or keep warm in the slow cooker for guests.
Notes
Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor.
Whole spices work much better than ground spices, which can leave the cider gritty.
