Description

A warm, cozy, no-peel Slow Cooker Apple Butter made with simple pantry spices. Perfect for spreading, gifting, and enjoying all season long.

Ingredients

Scale

56 pounds apples (about 1416 cups sliced), cored and chopped, unpeeled

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

1. Wash, core, and chop apples (no need to peel). Add to slow cooker.

2. Add brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, cloves, salt, and lemon juice. Stir to combine.

3. Cover and cook on low for 9–10 hours, until apples are very soft and deep golden brown.

4. Blend with an immersion blender until smooth.

5. Remove the lid and cook uncovered on low for 1–2 more hours, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

6. Stir in vanilla extract if using. Let cool before storing.

Notes

For a less sweet version, reduce sugar by up to half.

For shelf-stable storage, follow tested water-bath canning guidelines from the National Center for Home Food Preservation.
