Description
These Cod Fish Tacos feature lightly spiced, pan-seared cod tucked into warm tortillas with crunchy slaw and a creamy lime sauce. Ready in just 25 minutes, this beginner-friendly recipe is perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
1 to 1.5 lbs cod fillets
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp smoked paprika
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
2 cups shredded cabbage
1 medium carrot, shredded
3 tbsp lime juice, divided
½ cup plain Greek yogurt
2 tbsp mayonnaise
1 small garlic clove, minced
8 small corn or flour tortillas
Fresh cilantro, chopped
Lime wedges, for serving
Instructions
1. Toss cabbage and carrot with 2 tablespoons lime juice and a pinch of salt; refrigerate.
2. Whisk Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, remaining lime juice, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt; refrigerate.
3. Pat cod dry and season both sides with cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear cod 3–4 minutes per side until opaque and flaky.
5. Break cod into bite-sized pieces.
6. Warm tortillas in a dry skillet, about 30 seconds per side.
7. Assemble tacos with slaw, cod, sauce, and cilantro. Serve with lime wedges.
Notes
Cod should reach an internal temperature of 145°F for food safety.
Substitute tilapia, halibut, or mahi mahi if cod isn’t available.
Store leftover components separately in the fridge for up to 2 days.
