Description
A quick, golden, crispy sandwich layering tangy Dijon mustard, melted Swiss cheese, and tender deli turkey on buttery sourdough bread. Ready in just 13 minutes with only eight simple ingredients.
Ingredients
8 slices sourdough bread
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
¾ pound thinly sliced deli turkey breast
4 slices Swiss cheese
¼ cup thinly sliced red onion
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Spread Dijon mustard on one side of four bread slices. Spread mayonnaise on one side of the remaining four slices.
2. On each mayo-covered slice, layer about 3 ounces of deli turkey, one slice of Swiss cheese, and a few rings of red onion. Season with salt and pepper. Close with a Dijon-covered slice, mustard facing inward.
3. Spread softened butter evenly on the top and bottom outer surfaces of each sandwich.
4. Heat a large skillet over medium-low heat. Place two sandwiches in the pan and cook 3 to 4 minutes per side until both sides are golden brown and cheese is visibly melted. Repeat with remaining sandwiches.
5. Let rest 1 minute before slicing and serving.
Notes
Cover the skillet with a lid for 30 seconds if the bread browns before the cheese fully melts.
Use room-temperature butter for easier spreading.
Use two spatulas when flipping to keep the filling intact.
Store wrapped sandwiches in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a dry skillet over medium-low heat for 2 to 3 minutes per side.
Freezing assembled sandwiches is not recommended. Freeze components separately.
