Ingredients
For the Skillet
-
1 (16–20 oz) package frozen pierogies (any flavor)
-
12 oz smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced into coins
-
1 medium onion, sliced
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
2 tbsp butter or olive oil
-
½ cup chicken broth (or water)
-
Salt & pepper to taste
Optional Add-Ins
-
1 cup bell peppers, sliced
-
1 cup cabbage, shredded
-
1 cup spinach or peas
-
1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella (for cheesy version)
-
3–4 tbsp cream cheese or sour cream (for creamy version)
Instructions
-
Brown the Sausage:
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced sausage and cook until the edges turn golden and caramelized. -
Crisp the Pierogies:
Add butter or oil to the skillet. Add frozen pierogies in a single layer and cook 3–4 minutes per side, until crisp and golden. -
Add Aromatics:
Stir in the onions, garlic, and any optional vegetables. Cook until softened and fragrant. -
Steam & Soften:
Pour in the broth and cover the skillet. Let the pierogies steam for 3–4 minutes until fully heated through. -
Finish Your Style:
For cheesy—add shredded cheese and let it melt.
For creamy—stir in cream cheese or sour cream.
For veggie-loaded—fold in spinach or peas until warm. -
Serve:
Season with salt and pepper and serve hot straight from the skillet.
Notes
-
Don’t overcrowd the pan—this keeps the pierogies crisp, not mushy.
-
You can use turkey sausage or chicken sausage for a lighter version.
-
Add smoked paprika or Cajun seasoning for a spicy twist.
-
Leftovers reheat best in a skillet with a splash of broth.
