Description

This Pierogi & Sausage Skillet is a quick, cozy, and ultra-flavorful one-pan dinner made with crispy pierogies, caramelized sausage, and simple ingredients. Ready in under 30 minutes, this comforting skillet is perfect for busy nights and flexible enough to customize—cheesy, creamy, or veggie-loaded.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Skillet

  • 1 (16–20 oz) package frozen pierogies (any flavor)

  • 12 oz smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced into coins

  • 1 medium onion, sliced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tbsp butter or olive oil

  • ½ cup chicken broth (or water)

  • Salt & pepper to taste

Optional Add-Ins

  • 1 cup bell peppers, sliced

  • 1 cup cabbage, shredded

  • 1 cup spinach or peas

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella (for cheesy version)

  • 34 tbsp cream cheese or sour cream (for creamy version)

Instructions

  1. Brown the Sausage:
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced sausage and cook until the edges turn golden and caramelized.

  2. Crisp the Pierogies:
Add butter or oil to the skillet. Add frozen pierogies in a single layer and cook 3–4 minutes per side, until crisp and golden.

  3. Add Aromatics:
Stir in the onions, garlic, and any optional vegetables. Cook until softened and fragrant.

  4. Steam & Soften:
Pour in the broth and cover the skillet. Let the pierogies steam for 3–4 minutes until fully heated through.

  5. Finish Your Style:
For cheesy—add shredded cheese and let it melt.
For creamy—stir in cream cheese or sour cream.
For veggie-loaded—fold in spinach or peas until warm.

  6. Serve:
Season with salt and pepper and serve hot straight from the skillet.

Notes

  • Don’t overcrowd the pan—this keeps the pierogies crisp, not mushy.

  • You can use turkey sausage or chicken sausage for a lighter version.

  • Add smoked paprika or Cajun seasoning for a spicy twist.

  • Leftovers reheat best in a skillet with a splash of broth.
