Description

This easy Ham and Cheese Croissant Casserole combines buttery croissants, savory ham, melty cheese, and a cozy egg custard baked to golden perfection. Perfect for holidays, brunch, or busy mornings, this comforting casserole comes together fast and never turns soggy.

Ingredients

Scale

Casserole Base

  • 6 large croissants (preferably day-old), torn or sliced

  • 2 cups diced cooked ham

  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 cup shredded Swiss or Gruyère

  • 3 green onions, sliced (optional)

Egg Custard

  • 6 large eggs

  • 2 cups milk or half-and-half

  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prep the dish: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  2. Layer croissants: Spread croissant pieces evenly in the dish.

  3. Add ham & cheese: Sprinkle diced ham, cheddar, and Swiss evenly over the croissants.

  4. Make the custard: In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, Dijon, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

  5. Pour over casserole: Slowly pour custard across the entire dish, ensuring even coverage.

  6. Rest (optional): Let sit 10–15 minutes to help absorption.

  7. Bake: Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake 20–25 more minutes, until golden and set.

  8. Serve: Cool for 5 minutes before cutting.

Notes

  • For the crispiest top, lightly toast the croissants first.

  • Add jalapeños, spinach, cooked bacon, or mushrooms for easy variations.

  • Use leftover holiday ham for extra flavor.

  • Can be assembled ahead and refrigerated overnight.
