Easy to make, kid-friendly, and irresistibly crispy, this recipe is perfect for quick lunches or cozy weeknight meals when you want something fun and satisfying.
Ingredients
-
4 hot dogs (beef, turkey, or chicken)
-
8 slices sandwich bread (white or brioche)
-
8 slices American cheese
-
2 tablespoons butter, softened (or mayo, optional)
Instructions
-
Warm the hot dogs
Lightly heat the hot dogs in a skillet or microwave just until warm. Set aside. -
Prepare the bread
Spread a thin, even layer of butter on one side of each slice of bread. -
Assemble the sandwiches
Place one slice of bread butter-side down. Add one slice of cheese, place a hot dog on top, add a second slice of cheese, then top with another slice of bread (butter-side up). -
Cook low and slow
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. Cook each sandwich for 3–4 minutes per side, flipping gently, until the bread is golden and the cheese is fully melted. -
Rest and serve
Let rest for 30–60 seconds before cutting. Serve warm and enjoy.
Notes
-
Cooking on medium-low heat prevents burning and ensures the cheese melts properly.
-
American cheese melts best, but you can mix in cheddar or mozzarella for extra flavor.
-
Trim hot dogs slightly if needed so they fit neatly inside the bread.
