Description

This creamy Coconut Milk Hot Chocolate is rich, cozy, and naturally dairy-free. Made with simple pantry ingredients, it comes together in about 10 minutes for the perfect cold-weather treat.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Coconut Milk Hot Chocolate:

  • 2 cups full-fat coconut milk (canned, well stirred)

  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 23 tablespoons sugar, maple syrup, or coconut sugar (to taste)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Pinch of salt

Optional for extra creaminess & topping:

  • 2 tablespoons coconut cream (optional, for thicker hot chocolate)

  • Coconut whipped cream, for serving

  • Shaved chocolate or cocoa powder, for garnish

  • Toasted coconut flakes, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Warm the coconut milk
Add the coconut milk to a small saucepan and place over medium-low heat. Warm gently until steaming, but do not let it boil.

  2. Whisk in cocoa and sweetener
Whisk in the cocoa powder, making sure there are no lumps. Add sugar or your chosen sweetener and continue whisking until smooth and combined.

  3. Add vanilla and salt
Stir in the vanilla extract and a small pinch of salt. If you’re using coconut cream for extra richness, whisk it in now until the hot chocolate is silky and creamy.

  4. Adjust to taste
Taste and adjust sweetness or cocoa level as needed. If you like it darker, add a little more cocoa; if you like it sweeter, add a touch more sugar or syrup.

  5. Serve
Pour the Coconut Milk Hot Chocolate into mugs. Top with coconut whipped cream, shaved chocolate, and toasted coconut flakes if desired. Serve hot and enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • For a lighter drink, use lite coconut milk or half coconut milk and half water.

  • For a stronger chocolate flavor, add an extra teaspoon of cocoa powder.

  • For a mocha twist, add a shot of espresso.

  • This Coconut Milk Hot Chocolate reheats well over low heat; just avoid boiling and whisk gently to bring it back together.
