Description

This moist and tender Amish Apple Fritter Bread is loaded with cinnamon-sugar apples and topped with a classic vanilla glaze. It’s easy to make, naturally flavorful, and perfect for brunch, dessert, or gifting.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Bread Batter:

  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1½ tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • ½ cup milk

  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil (or melted unsalted butter)

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Apple Layer:

  • 2 medium apples, peeled and chopped

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

For the Glaze:

  • ½ cup powdered sugar

  • 1 tbsp milk

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prep the apples: In a small bowl, toss chopped apples with brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.

  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.

  3. Mix wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk sugar, milk, oil (or melted butter), eggs, and vanilla until smooth.

  4. Combine: Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir just until combined.

  5. Layer the batter: Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan. Pour in half the batter, top with half the apple mixture. Repeat. Swirl gently with a knife.

  6. Bake: Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  7. Cool: Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

  8. Glaze: Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over cooled bread and let set.

Notes

  • Apple types: Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn work best.

  • Storage: Store at room temperature up to 3 days or freeze without glaze for up to 3 months.

  • Dairy-free option: Use almond milk and oil.

  • Gluten-free option: Substitute a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend with xanthan gum.

  • For variations, try apple butter swirl, streusel topping, or baking in a Bundt pan.
