Description

This easy 3 ingredient chocolate mousse is rich, creamy, and incredibly simple to make. With just chocolate, heavy cream, and a hint of flavor, you can whip up a decadent, airy dessert in minutes—no eggs, no baking, no fuss. Perfect for parties, make-ahead treats, or satisfying a sudden chocolate craving!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (170g) high-quality semi-sweet or dark chocolate (chips or chopped bar)
  • 1 cup (240ml) cold heavy whipping cream
  • 1 pinch sea salt (or 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract or espresso powder, optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt the Chocolate:
Place the chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Microwave in 20–30 second bursts, stirring between each, until fully melted. Alternatively, melt gently over a double boiler. Stir in sea salt or any optional flavoring. Let the chocolate cool slightly until warm, not hot.
  2. Whip the Cream:
In a separate chilled bowl, beat the heavy cream with a hand mixer (or whisk) until soft peaks form—smooth, but able to hold their shape.
  3. Combine:
Gently fold the cooled, melted chocolate into the whipped cream using a silicone spatula. Work slowly to keep the mixture light and airy.
  4. Chill:
Divide the mousse among serving glasses, ramekins, or jars. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to 24 hours, until set.
  5. Serve:
Top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, berries, or your favorite garnish before serving, if desired.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free or vegan version, use full-fat coconut cream and dairy-free chocolate.
  • You can use milk or white chocolate for a sweeter, lighter mousse.
  • The mousse thickens the longer it chills. For best texture, chill at least 2 hours.
  • Serve in small portions—this mousse is rich!
  • Get creative with toppings: berries, crushed cookies, nuts, or a sprinkle of sea salt.
